Moody’s thinks Russia defaulted on Eurobonds on Monday

MOSCOW, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- International rating agency Moody’s thinks that Russia defaulted on its Eurobonds on Monday as the bondholders had not received payments on the securities on time, the agency said in a statement.

Bloomberg newswire reported earlier in the day that Russia had defaulted on external liabilities for the first time since 1918 as the grace period for payments on Eurobonds had expired. But the Russian Finance Ministry said in a statement that it had transferred the payments to Euroclear on time, and the bondholders did not receive the money only because of actions of the foreign financial mediators, which cannot be seen as a default.
